Expert Instructional Design Introduction: The Training Design workshop picks up where the Optimizing Performance Workshop (Front-End Analysis or, FEA) left off and presents an innovative approach to training design that produces exemplary job performance. The focus of this four-day workshop is on designing training that addresses what employees need in order to perform their jobs; not unnecessary information that does not relate to the goal of the organization. Training is accomplishment-based ( that is, it has a direct effect on what employees do and produce) and is tied to the achievement of an organization's goals. This workshop is presented In-house at your facility. Rationale for course: The tools presented in this workshop will enable participants to maximize the effect of training on their organization's goals while minimizing the costs. Save millions of dollars simply by revising existing training to make it performance-based. The best training is always the shortest training. Take the initiative to complete what Marilyn Gilbert calls a "Performance Edit" to revise existing training. "The biggest problem in the world of work today is the quality of the information given to workers"; Tom Gilbert. The use of special instructional tactics leads to a process of instructional design that is unique to the ABCD System. This approach is one of the first "performance-based" approaches in that it begins by identifying the performance/behaviors to be learned and leads the designer to select an instructional strategy that specifically deals with the learning problem inherent in that performance. The basic steps are: identity the behavior to be learned. determine the behavior characteristics of the performance to be learned, identify learning problems inherent in the behavior characteristics to be learned, develop the six general tactics that are basic of all good instruction, and add special instructional tactics that will appropriately treat the learning problems which are present in the performance to be learned. Course goal: Upon completion of this workshop and given the job aids included, participants will be able to design accomplishment-based curricula, courses, and modules. You will learn how-to produce:
Schedule: Each day consists of brief presentations with extensive examples, time allotted for self-study, practice exercises as well as specific application of tools to participant's needs.
